- Updates
- Download the newest installer from this page and run it — it updates in place and keeps your settings, memories and models
Release notes
- First preview build of Kira: floating 3D companion, local AI via Ollama, bring-your-own-key cloud AI (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, OpenAI-compatible), local memory, voice output with captions, optional on-device speech input, opt-in screenshots and permission-controlled actions.
Installation guide
- 1
Download the installer
Save the .exe from this page. Optionally verify it: open PowerShell in your Downloads folder and run Get-FileHash .\Kira_*_x64-setup.exe — the hash must match the SHA-256 above.
- 2
Run it
If SmartScreen appears for an unsigned build, choose “More info” → “Run anyway” only if the checksum matched. The installer is per-user and does not ask for admin rights.
- 3
Pick local or cloud AI
Local: install Ollama from ollama.com (Kira links you there, notices it within seconds, and starts it for you whenever it isn’t running). Cloud: paste your own API key; it is stored in Windows Credential Manager.
- 4
Choose a model
One click downloads the model Kira recommends for your RAM/VRAM, and she selects it for you. The download size is shown and nothing downloads until you confirm.
- 5
Set voice and privacy
Voice, screenshots, actions and proactive check-ins all start off or minimal. Turn on what you want.
- 6
Say hi
Kira appears on your desktop. Drag her anywhere. Ctrl+Alt+J opens chat, Ctrl+Alt+L toggles click-through, Ctrl+Alt+K shows/hides her.
System requirements
Minimum
- OS
- Windows 10 22H2 or Windows 11, 64-bit (x64)
- Runtime
- Microsoft Edge WebView2 (preinstalled on Windows 11; the installer fetches it if missing)
- Memory
- 8 GB RAM for small local models (1–3B). 4 GB is enough in cloud mode.
- Graphics
- Any GPU with WebGL 2 for the 3D avatar; integrated graphics are fine
- Disk
- Under 50 MB for Kira (estimate until the first release build), plus 1–4 GB per local model
Recommended for local AI
- Memory
- 16 GB RAM
- GPU
- NVIDIA/AMD GPU with 4 GB+ VRAM for faster local replies (optional)
- Extras
- A current Ollama release for local mode (tested with 0.17.7); a microphone for voice input
Uninstalling
Use Settings → Apps → Installed apps → Kira → Uninstall. The uninstaller offers to delete Kira's app data too.
What stays unless you remove it:
- Kira's data folder (
%APPDATA%\app.kira.companion) if you didn't tick “delete app data”: settings, conversation history, memories, tasks. - API keys in Windows Credential Manager (entries named
app.kira.companion). Remove them in Kira → AI settings before uninstalling, or in Control Panel → Credential Manager. - Ollama and its downloaded models — they belong to Ollama. Remove models with
ollama rm <model>or uninstall Ollama. - The optional speech-recognition model cached by Kira's webview (removed together with the app data folder).
