Privacy policy

Kira is a desktop app. It has no Kira servers, accounts, analytics or telemetry. This page explains what happens to your data in each mode. The same text ships with the app as PRIVACY.md.

Local mode (Ollama)

  • Your messages, the system prompt and any memories you allowed are sent to Ollama at http://127.0.0.1:11434 (or another address you set).
  • Ollama runs the model on your CPU/GPU. Kira does not send this data anywhere else.
  • Ollama and the models you download are third-party software with their own terms and licences. Downloading a model contacts Ollama's registry.

Cloud mode (your own API key)

  • Your messages, the system prompt, relevant memories and any screenshot you approve are sent directly from your PC to the provider you chose (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or a custom OpenAI-compatible endpoint).
  • That provider's privacy policy and data-retention terms apply. Some free tiers allow providers to use data for training — check before you choose.
  • Usage is billed to your account by the provider. Kira never proxies requests or uses anyone else's credits.
  • If a cloud request fails, Kira tells you. It never silently switches to a different provider or mode.

API keys

  • Stored in Windows Credential Manager, bound to the provider's host. Kira's native layer only attaches a key to requests for that host.
  • Keys are never shown back in the interface, written to logs, included in exports, or sent to this website.

Screen context

  • Off by default. When on, Kira captures a screenshot only when you press the capture button — never in the background.
  • You see a preview before anything is sent. In cloud mode a separate setting must allow screenshot uploads.
  • Screenshots are not saved to history; only a note that one was shared.

Memory and history

  • Conversations, approved memories, tasks, reminders and the action log are stored in a local SQLite database in your Windows profile.
  • Kira only saves a memory when you add it or approve Kira's suggestion. You can review, edit, delete, export or wipe everything in Settings.
  • History retention defaults to 90 days and can be changed or set to “keep forever”. Saving history can be turned off.

Voice

  • Spoken replies use the voices installed in Windows. Some Windows “online” voices may be processed by Microsoft; Kira labels voices as local or online where Windows reports it.
  • Speech input is push-to-talk. With the on-device Whisper engine, audio is transcribed locally after a one-time model download from Hugging Face. Audio is not stored.

Translation

Off by default. When enabled, text is translated by the same AI you already use (local or cloud). Machine translation can be wrong.

This website

This site is static. It sets no cookies and includes no analytics unless the operator configures them, in which case this section will name the service. It never receives your API keys or conversations.
